white guy fantasy–interracial dating

gen, mayumi, the stranger white boy working on his type project, and i stayed behind last class to discuss some new ideas for my next project. we went through the list of desires i had posted and decided that my fantasy to fall in love with a white guy but marry a chinese guy because i want chinese babies was hilarious enough to devote a whole project on.

so i started asking all my friends to brainstorm with me what i can do visually with this topic.

one friend thought i should design collateral for a dating service company specific to interracial dating. a brochure with different types of potentials/candidates, except their selling quality wouldn't be their personality but rather their ethnicity. page titles may resemble:
"hot love affair with Abercrombie type white boy, offer expires upon marriage with chinese boy"
"saucy sizzling indian girl, offer expires when she's taken off the market by family arranged marriage"

i do not have a problem with abusing stereotypes for this project, i think it actually helps. sure it may offend people... i dunno. i'm not sure if this is the best project that can come of my topic though. any other suggestions? (i also think if i go with this project, it's another photography based project...and it seems like i resort to photography in all my projects...maybe i should do something else?)

I agree that your desire, and the way you put it out so directly, is hilarious! though it is a little disappointing for me since I am all for mix-and-match families :) oh well, that is just me.

this is probably a wide-spread phenomenon in NYC. despite its diversity, many people seem to have a pre-determined race/religion of their choice when it comes to marriage. so, it will probably resonate well with a lot of people.

dating service ads is the first natural association. I guess you can further tap into every aspect of dating and "meeting people", such as a poster for a speed dating meeting, singles nights, Valentines Day, happy hours, etc.

in terms of visual style, since this is a funny subject, a quirky style would work well. may be you can try doing some collage or mixture of photography and drawing.

and I can see your project ending with a letter to one of those columns seeking advice for how to cope with the depression after the break up from your boyfriend whom you are totally in love with but is, unfortunately, not the right race to be your husband!

I hope this helps somehow...

I'm mixed race in G's intermediate design class. You should check out my blog. Part of my thesis is understanding what people's issues with the whole mixed race thing. It's not a big deal to me, but it seems like it's a big deal to others.

As some of you know may know, I'm of Africa heritage. Hubby, on the other hand, is Caucasian. To most people, we're an interracial couple. It's nothing I really think about or notice, but other people (occasionally) comment on it.

As a result, I'm fairly sensitive to interracial dating. And I recently discovered InterracialMatch.com, an interracial dating website for men and women who are specifically looking for an interracial relationship. The site features people of all ethnicities, ages and socio-economic backgrounds, and it allows you to search by zip code for interacial personals.

The user friendly site allows members to send messages to potential dates, and you can join for free. The profiles include
plenty of information, such as age, marital status, children, pets, music and movie preferences, political views and more. With this much information, it's easy to find someone who could be a great romantic match for you!
